Huangshan: inside the mountains of ink painting

Granite spires, pines and seas of cloud: the Yellow Mountains in Anhui shaped Chinese landscape painting. On the trail, up endless stone stairs.

Sample text for the preview.

If you know Chinese ink paintings, you have probably seen Huangshan without realising it. The Yellow Mountains in Anhui province, with their steep rock spires and gnarled pines, have been a motif of landscape painting for centuries. They became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.

Stairs, not paths

The trails consist almost entirely of stone steps, thousands of them. Set off early and you will see the sea of clouds from above, with only the peaks breaking through.

Room for your own impressions and practical tips.
