White Mountaineering: everywhere is outdoors

Since 2006, Yosuke Aizawa has blurred the line between mountain clothing and fashion. His Tokyo label treats the whole city as terrain.

The idea behind White Mountaineering fits in one sentence: every place you wear clothes is outdoors. The Tokyo label takes the details of mountain clothing and builds fashion from them, for the city as much as for the trail.

Yosuke Aizawa

The designer behind the brand, Yosuke Aizawa, was born in 1977 and studied textile design at Tama Art University. He launched White Mountaineering in 2006.

Since then he has designed for brands such as Moncler W and Burton Thirteen, and he works as a designer for the Italian label Colmar. He is also a director of the Japanese football club Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. The flagship store is in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Design, utility, technology

The brand names three elements it brings together in every piece: design, utility and technology. It adds an attitude: not giving in to what the market seems to want.

The range is split into lines, each with its own idea. BLK is made only in black. Repose Wear is relaxed and loose. W.M.B.C., short for White Mountaineering Base Camp, is made for camping and includes gear as well as clothing.

Post De Stijl

The autumn and winter 2026 collection is called Post De Stijl. It starts from the Dutch art movement De Stijl, known for strict order and primary colours, and then strips the colours back to single tones of black, white, beige, green and purple.

Without loud colours, the attention shifts to form, proportion and movement. Aizawa describes the clothes not as sculptures but as products that move with the body. The collaborations underline the approach, with partners such as Danner, BRIEFING, TAION, Alpha Industries and Dickies.

Your turn: White Mountaineering's online store is in Japanese only. A line on your own experience ordering from Japan would help readers here.
